Get to Know Kacey Wasson
Dedicated to the Art of Theatre
While earning my BFA in Technical Theatre and Production, I went down multiple paths before finding my passion.
I spent my first two years studying interior design with a minor in technical theatre. Although I gained a very strong foundation in design and drafting skills, this wasn't fulfilling enough for me.
I took a few classes for my minor and remembered how my heart belongs to theatre . I changed my major to technical theatre with a focus in scenic design and thought that was the last stop for me.
Due to going down multiple paths, I felt as if there were some gaps in my TD education. I understand that in my job as a TD, I have to consider the safety of others. So I decided to continue my education, and am currently receiving my masters in technical direction from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
My versatile knowledge in design, lighting, rigging, carpenty, props, and painting makes me a valuable asset and a stronger leader. I can collaborate with other teams because I have been apart of other teams; but at the end of the day, my heart is with scenery.
I spent my next two years following a scenic design path where I gained the opportunity to design a couple of productions at Texas State University and a few outside gigs for venues across the country.
But something my design advisor kept telling me is that I "think about how its going to be built too much"; So thats what I did.
Having accidentally done some outside TD work, I decided that this is what I am truly passionate about and spent my final semester probing as much information out of my mentor as possible.
